Fineinn delivers another great remake

Fineinn Quinn has been passionate about his music for many years. So much so that the young Foxford songwriter, singer and musician spearheaded a campaign recently to highlight the plight of Irish musicians affected by the Covid-19 restrictions on live music.

Nevertheless, the Mayoman did not lose his creative spark during the confinement, releasing the classy song Wherever You Are last November and then an entrancing re-imagining of Coldplay’s Christmas Lights last December, complete with video.

This weekend saw the dropping of his latest single, a delightful acoustic arrangement of Faded.

Fineinn has a penchant for moulding the songs of other writers into his own unique style. Faded was originally performed by Alan Walker, but is perfectly suited to Fineinn’s brooding voice and skilled musicianship as a guitar and fiddle player.

Fineinn’s most prestigious accolade as a musician came when he won Gold at the All Ireland Fleadh bodhrán competition in 2013, but he is also an accomplished and self-taught banjo and piano player.

In 2017, his debut Objekt Of My Affection – recorded at David Dwane Recording Studio was released on all streaming sites. Fineinn is not inclined to categorise his music, believing instead that there should be no barriers to creativity. But he does accept that his music spans the broad folk/alternative/indie/pop genres. “You will hear whispers of many artists throughout my music from the likes of Coldplay, Christy Moore, David Bowie, Hudson Taylor and Kodaline, among others,” he said.

Objekt Of My Affection was his first original release, and Fineinn acknowledges this experience as a valuable contribution to a learning curve that has gained him a greater knowledge of the music industry.

Pre-Covid, he has played numerous festivals and events such as Live On Air Festival in Enniscrone, Claremorris Folk Festival and Bridge of Song in Castlebar.

In 2020, Wherever You Are provoked some encouraging words from John Merchant: “If you haven’t already, you really need to give Finéinn a listen,” said the well-known music producer.

“He’s Ireland’s best kept secret, though likely not for long. His ability to take any song, either a well-loved cover or an original, and make it his own, is striking. He’s also a super nice guy.”
