Songwriters who are 16 years of age and older are invited to submit entries for a new Mayo song contest to take place in Westport. DDM Music Media, in association with McCarthy’s Bar, Westport, is organising SongWest, a singer-songwriter competition that aims to highlight the talented songwriters, musicians and creativity that exists, not just in County Mayo, but across the entire country.

It is a skills-based competition and is free to enter. The song(s) submitted (maximum of three) must not have been previously released as a download or stream, or as a physical CD. The song(s) can be recorded by any audio device and sent as an mp3. Songs can also be recorded by video, but good quality audio and visual is recommended.
The contest is open to residents of Ireland and entrants must be available to perform on the date allocated for their heat. Heats will be held weekly on a Thursday evening from April 2nd until April 23rd. Successful contestants will then proceed to semi-finals on April 30th and May 7th, and the grand final will be held on May 21st. All stages will be hosted in McCarthy’s Bar, Westport.
Among the prizes are a full-day in a recording studio to record, mix and master your song (to the value of €500), and a substantial music shop cash voucher.
