Easkey influence on Eugene McGrath’s debut album

Eugene McGrath is a folk singer based in Easkey, Co Sligo and he is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming debut album Waiting for Morning on 14th November.

Last year he released his first single Lough Easkey Snowfall – taken from the new album – and it reached the final of the Newly Composed Ballad competition at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2019.

Waiting for Morning was recorded in Saltwell Studios in England with Chris Pepper producing, and contains ten tracks – eight original compositions and two interpretations of traditional songs. The songs are based on the people and landscapes of the west of Ireland, and have country, folk and rock influences intertwined with the stories.

Eugene first came to attention as part of the Christy Moore showcase organised by Tradconnect in 2015, and released his debut EP Still a Pilgrim the following year. After spending a year in London checking out the folk scene, he returned to Ireland and continues to be a regular at many of the folk clubs around the west, notably the Killala Bay and Clew Bay Folk Clubs. He has also recently commenced studies towards a Masters in Traditional and World Music at the University of Sheffield.

The latest single from the album is called ‘Cross the Land’ and can be found on Youtube and his Facebook page.

To celebrate the launch of the album, Eugene is presenting a launch night in the Harbour Bar, Pullaheeney on Saturday 16th November.
